EZNote X… Jot down a note and easily find it later

EZNote X SoftwareAnother information manager, note taker…

Update 6/4/06

I originally downloaded this in December, wasn’t impressed and put it in the “reject” bin. Having forgotten that (which is one reason I’ve set up this website!), I downloaded the newer version today to try it again. Unfortunately, this software is clunky as all get-out. I hate to say anything bad about Mac software, but basically nothing I tried worked as expected. Here are just a couple of things that seem really wacky to me:

  1. You can import RTF and PDF files, but you see all the control codes in the “view” window… in other words, you don’t see actual formatted text and graphics.
  2. The left-hand column can be either a tree showing your documents, or you can start browsing your hard drive a la the Finder. When you do, and you find a document you’d like to import, you can neither drag it to the right-hand pane nor use a contextual menu to import. Instead, I tried using the menubar Notes/Import command. But this brought up the Finder’s usual Open/Save dialog rather than acting on the file I’d already selected!
  3. To make matters worse, once I went ahead and selected something in the Finder and imported it, and once again saw RTF code (??!), I used the pull-down menu to get out of the software’s built-in file-browse mode and go back to my categories of documents. At this point, the file I’d imported completely disappeared! It wasn’t in any of the categories, including the default ones. It was at this point that I decided this wasn’t worth the aggravation.

If it wasn’t worth the aggravation of even trying it out, I certainly wasn’t about to fork over $25 for the privilege of further frustration! There are simply far too many great note-taking apps for the Mac, both free and not, to bother with EZNote any fur
