Viou Helps Manage Custom Folder and File Icons

This free tool from Launay software has a couple of quirks and some user-interface strangeness, but if you figure out how to use it, it can be very helpful in applying custom icons to folders and files. The tool has a contextual menu plugin that lets you quickly apply custom icons based on previously saved designs and copied application icons. My big frustration was that it wouldn’t automatically make a custom icon from the app icon buried in the app’s folder. It’s supposed to do this, but I couldn’t make it work. So you have to copy the app icon and use that together with your custom folder design to paste the new icon. Still, free is free, and this is easier to use than FinderIcon, which I’d previously used for this purpose (but is broken in Tiger).
