ajaxWrite: Another Free Ajax-Based Word Processor

Published March 24th, 2006
ajaxWrite Takes on Writely... But Works Only in Firefox Let's see... Is a web application that works only in Firefox better than one that works only in IE? Well, yes, actually it is. At least Firefox works consistently across all OS platforms, whereas IE is Windows only now that Microsoft won the browser wars. But it's still no good. Web apps should be written to open standards, not to any single proprietary system. Although it's open source, the Mozilla platform has user interface standards and API's that work only on its own software products. As such, they are not web standards. If you want to write an XUL app, make it a desktop app, not a web app. Otherwise, you're leaving too many people out in the cold... unnecessarily so.
