NotLight 1.0 – Matt Neuburg’s Spotlight Add-On

Everybody knows (hopes!) Apple will improve the Spotlight interface and functionality in Leopard, but until then, simple freeware tools like this that get around some of Spotlight’s weaknesses are more than welcome! This simple-looking search tool from Matt Neuberg packs a huge amount of power if you really want to compile complicated boolean searches using Spotlight’s index. It definitely pays to read the detailed Help file included with NotLight. Oh, and by the way, the icon is quite misleading… NotLight doesn’t turn off SpotLight or anything like that. It simply lets you do searches that aren’t possible with Apple’s built-in interface. You can save each search and then search within those results and even save that search. Like I said, read the instructions if you want to take full advantage of NotLight.
