WeatherDock: This Ultimate Weather App Is Amazing Freeware!

WeatherDock by Alwin Troost Provides Weather and Forecasts… For Starters

WeatherDock FreewareAnd it’s not just for your Dock. In fact, I won’t be using it there since I keep my Dock hidden most of the time. WeatherDock also lives as a menu extra, where it provides a list of forecast days and access to all the program’s features. At first, I thought that was all, but then I clicked on one of the days in the menu, and was delighted to see another nicely designed window with more day-detail, alternative navigation to the days info, and more.WeatherDock badge In addition, WeatherDock has a configurable transulcent badge with the same info that appears on the Dock icon (which supports numerous badges that you define), and you can place this in any corner of the screen and adjust its transparency to your taste.

Finally, WeatherDock has a wonderful preference application that’s well laid out and feature rich. You can customize just about every aspect of the application, so that despite its many complex features, it’s easy to make it as unobtrusive and simple as you like. Bonus features include the ability to have WeatherDock speak the forecasts when they change, to automatically change locations depending on the day of the week, to customize visual notification based on the type of weather message received, and more. For each location you define as a “favorite,” you can select from about 20 different measures to display in the menus.

I could go on a bit more, but you get the picture. Go out and grab WeatherDock and save yourself some money compared with buying shareware products like WeatherManX, and I rate WeatherDock above other free menu items like WeatherMenu (the freeware version of WeatherManX) and my previous favorite, Meteorologist. Did I mention that the program will also print out a beautifully formatted forecast, practically suitable for framing? (See image from PDF file, below)
