djay: Be The Best DJ On Your Network!

Published June 19th, 2006

djay is a groundbreaking software package that lets you play deejay like a pro!

djay music freewareHow are software developers who want to get paid for their software going to make it when guys like this make such awesome software for free? I mean, really, if you ever had the slightest dream of being a deejay, you gotta check this one out! I can tell right away it’s going to be a favorite of mine… I just can’t believe they’re giving it away!

You get two real turntables, a helluva mixer with all the bells and whistles you could ever want, a built-in window to your itunes playlists and files, and all you have to do is drag a song to one of the turntables and let rip! You can drag another to the other, and if they have album art, that shows up on the turntable!

But I haven’t even gotten to the best part yet! This software is bonjour-aware, with built-in features so you can share your deejaying throughout your network! djay shows up in Bonjour as whatever name you want to call your bad DJ self, and folks can tune in, or even contribute songs to the mix!

And the topping on the cake is that you can record the whole shebang and save it as an AIFF (or other formats) to disk. Like I said, you’ve got to check this out. Here’s the developer’s own list of features:

• Real-time audio mix transmission over Bonjour network

• Real-time audio mix recording

• iTunes Integration

• Automatic artwork image loading on both turntables

• customizable vinyl

• Forward spinning

• Time-Stretching

• Pitch-Shifting with amazing blend effect

• 5 band Equalizer

• Audio Unit Effects Support

• Pre-Cueing (requires multichannel sound card)

• Crossfade automation

• Manual Beat Counting

• Magnetic tempo slider for precise beat matching

• Cue points for beat-juggling

• GarageBand instruments integration via network

• AppleScriptability for mixing automation
