osxutils: Command-Line Tools for Mac OS X
Published September 15th, 2006
osxutils is a bundle of powerful Mac-oriented command line utilities for viewing, editing and manipulating file meta-data
Originally downloaded 9/15/06. Sound geeky enough for you? I'm surprised Apple doesn't have something like this included with OS X, actually... osxutils lets you get at and manipulate things like Finder icons, clipboard data, Finder aliases, Finder flags, type and creator data, etc. It also uses lsmac as a substitute for the basic ls command... lsmac lets you see a number of Mac-specific file attributes when you ls a directory. I'll give it a try to see whether I like it better... but I'm expecting I will!
