Photo Desktop: Decorate Your Desktop With Photographs
Originally downloaded 4/21/06. This freeware sounds a lot like a similar package from Devon Technologies that does movies as well as pictures and also costs some money. I wasn’t impressed with the Devon product… it was just a bit too complicated for a fun tweak like this. We’ll see if Photo Desktop ends up in the trash or stays in my menubar.
Update 10/27/06. This is one terrific piece of software. Extremely easy to use, and with delightful, satisfying results. No matter what images you’d like to see on your desktop, Photo Desktop will let you arrange them quickly in the Photo Desktop Editor, all the while showing you a live preview of how they’ll look on your desktop.
Your photos will show up superimposed over your regular desktop picture. You have a choice of border widths and colors, and you can size and crop the photos however you’d like. Brilliant implementation, and it’s been extremely stable on my Mac OS X 10.4 system. I have Photo Desktop set up to launch on login, which is optional. The menubar icon lets you turn the desktop on and off, launch the editor, or access preferences. All I can say is, thank you Alwin Troost… Thank you!
Version as tested: 1.5.2.
