WeatherSnitch: A Weather Menubar App That Growls!

WeatherSnitch: Weather for Your Bar

WeatherSnitch Freeware Menubar UtilityOriginally downloaded 11/28/06. There are many good, free weather utilities for Mac OS X that run in the menubar… plus some that aren’t free. But to my knowledge, WeatherSnitch is the only one that uses Growl, too. And as everyone probably knows by now, I like Growl. :-)

Update 12/7/06. No, this won’t do. Its Growl support isn’t enough to overcome its otherwise anemic interface and lack of customization. Too much clicking around, when WeatherDock“>WeatherDock or Meteorologist—both free—give you loads of info right in the menubar. This is the only tool of its kind I’ve seen that makes you enter a zip code rather than letting you choose a city name or zip. And then, it doesn’t let you change the city name… a real problem since the names it comes up with correspond with the weather station rather than the metropolitan area it’s in. The Growl notices, too, don’t add much and have too little information to be useful. WeatherDock has other, more interesting ways of notifying you when conditions change… and you can customize exactly what changes you want to be alerted about. Maybe I’ll suggest using Growl to the WeatherDock developer… Now, that would be almost perfect!

Version as tested: 1.1.0.
