TinyWorld - how great you are!
Originally downloaded January 29, 2007. I actually downloaded this little app last year some time and found it again while cleaning up my /Applications folder today. TinyWorld is just a sweet bit of fun to brighten up your desktop… a free goodie from the nice folks at Longfingers.com, whose main product is Panorama Backpacker. It comes in both a Dashboard widget and a desktop app form, and it’s the app form I’ve put out on my desktop now.
TinyWorld opens up as a small white square with a large white button inside. Using little “reveal” widgets, you can open up a panel on each of the square’s four sides. (I’d advise you to move TinyWorld away from a screen edge to begin; otherwise, it won’t be able to open one of the four sides until you relaunch it.) You drag TinyWorld by the translucent border that surrounds the square, by the way. Clicking on the button refreshes each of the four panels with new images from around the world, each identified by country.
Aside from the sheer beauty of these images and the thrill you may (or may not) get from peeking into different corners of our globe, I love TinyWorld for the ingenuity of its interface. Simply delightful! Since I use Single Application Mode, I’ve used Dockless to make TinyWorld stay present when I switch apps, and now I can get new pictures, straight from the ever-changing Longfingers.com collection, whenever I need a change.
By the way, Longfingers has several terrific free Dashboard widgets, and I plan to check out their other products as well. Clearly, they are very Mac-friendly developers who also love QuickTime and QTVR panoramas, some of which you can download directly to your QuickTime player.
