As described in the September 2006 article, "Building Leopard: An Excuse To Take a Mac OS X Software Inventory," this site will document my progress in configuring a clean install of Mac OS X 10.5 ("Leopard") with the multitude of software that I currently use on 10.4 ("Tiger"). This project will accomplish three major goals:

1. Create a full inventory of my computer's software as a baseline.
2. Prune software that I no longer use from the system (including all of the unnecessary preference files that have accumulated over several years)
3. Document items that do not work under Leopard, so I can pass the information on to the Leopard test team (whenever actual beta testing begins).

Where possible, I'll link items from my current software inventory to product reviews that have been entered in my Software Addicts library, and I'll try to document

• Where in the user interface the software is used (Desktop, menubar, preference pane, contextual menu, keyboard shortcut, services menu, Dashboard), and
• Where the software is installed on the system if it's somewhere other than the Applications directory.

The software will be presented in the categories I currently use to organize applications on my Tiger system. Also included in the project will be notes about configurations that needed to be made to enable hardware and to establish general user-interface and system preferences. Finally, you'll also find here a page that documents cool Leopard features that I wish were already available in Tiger! So far, I've found so many of these that I really hate it when I have to go back.
